“I learnt the meaning of prejudice, discrimination and stereotype and how it can have different effect on people”
This feedback was received from a Grade 6 Student at a primary school in Thomastown our wonderful volunteers recently visited.
Yes, it is shocking to learn that a 2025 study[i] showed 46% of adults worldwide harbour rising and deeply entrenched antisemitic attitudes. (This figure is double what it was a decade ago.)
And yes, alarmingly, younger respondents worldwide show a greater prevalence of antisemitic attitudes. We all know that right here in Victoria, we’re experiencing this dramatic rise in intolerance firsthand.
BUT – at Courage to Care, we know we are making a difference. And that is why we are taking action to respond to this new reality by expanding our Upstander Programs to even more schools than ever before – with the goal of raising $100,000 to make it happen.
Our Upstander Programs equip students with the knowledge and confidence to stand up to hate, rather than stand by. Because, as we all know, education is the single most powerful tool we have to create real, lasting generational change.
And the core message behind our Upstander Programs remains proudly universal: discrimination in ANY form is unAustralian and harms us all.
Social cohesion in Australia has fallen to its lowest level in recorded history.[ii] And racism is taking a severe toll on the mental health of our country’s adolescents.[iii]
