Our wonderful evening with Nova Peris OAM OLY was a huge success! It was a privilege to hear from Nova who is a true Upstander in every sense, having used her voice to stand up against all forms of discrimination for the past three decades.

Guests included the new Principal of Brighton Secondary College, Peter Langham and Year 9 student leader Grace, who participated in a Q&A about the direct impact of our workshops, proving through their words and actions that change is possible.

The evening was expertly moderated by Rachel Flitman (daughter of volunteers Evelyn & Malcolm) a strategic designer renowned for her empathetic engagement and skill in facilitating thoughtful, impactful conversations on complex, social issues. The theme of the discussion for the evening was ‘Inspiring Upstander action amid fragile times’, and Rachel warmly engaged with our speakers and guests.

The aim of the event was to engage new volunteers as well as reward and celebrate our current volunteers. Our volunteers are vital to our work as you are well aware.

The event was generously hosted and sponsored by our Principal Partners and long-time supporters Gandel Foundation, and we were honoured and delighted to have both John Gandel AC and Pauline Gandel AC join us for the evening. A big thank you as well to Graham Goldsmith AO Deputy Chairman and Nicole Brittain Senior Grants Manager Gandel Foundation.

Volunteers are the bridges between our community and schools across the state, paving the way for understanding and unity in the fight against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination. The need for anti-racism education in our community is greater than ever before, but with a model that is completely scalable, we can increase our impact, by growing our team of wonderful and dedicated  volunteers.
