We are thrilled to advise that Sabrina (Sabi) Chakman has been appointed as our new Chair by the Committee of Management.
Sabi has been appointed to the role as a result of the passing of our beloved Judy Glick in June.
When Sabi retired from teaching seeking an opportunity to keep up her skills, she never imagined that volunteering at Courage to Care would be the best job she’d ever had! Sabi is honoured and grateful to play her part in building social cohesion in the communities we reach.
In Sabi’s own words: “Going into schools in rural and regional Victoria, and greater Melbourne, enables me to talk to a diverse range of people. We learn from each other and together we explore the damage that hate and discrimination cause.
It is so satisfying to witness the student’s rapt attention when a Holocaust Survivor Speaker is sharing their Upstander Story. Stories of being rescued by ordinary people with the moral conviction, compassion and courage to stand up in the most challenging of circumstances highlight the power each individual holds to make a difference.”
Sabi will contunue to be supported by our fabulous Vice Chair Kerryn Lowe.
When she is not volunteering Sabi is a devoted grandmother and loves to read and travel.
We have no doubt that Sabi will continue on with Judy’s wonderful stewardship of Courage to Care and bring her own unique ideas and perspectives.
