Courage to Care is proud to support and celebrate National Reconciliation Week, 27 May – 3 June each year.
This year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next” is about learning from history’s lessons and highlighting the continuous connection between Australia’s past, present and future. This theme encourages all Australians to reflect on historical truths, learn from past lessons, and collaboratively advance towards a more united and respectful nation.
In our organisation, we use stories of the Holocaust to illustrate how unchecked stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination can escalate into violence and genocide. This historical truth serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences when societies fail to challenge discrimination and uphold human rights. Similarly, truth-telling in the context of reconciliation means confronting the impacts of colonisation and systemic discrimination against our Indigenous population. By linking these narratives, we commit to learning from the past, challenging harmful attitudes, and actively building a more just and equitable future.
