In February, Courage to Care was invited to deliver a Community Upstander Program for the Office of Zoe Daniel at the Highett RSL. The community education session was facilitated by the amazing Sabrina Chakman to a room of nearly 60 people, with 27 community organisations represented. The organisations represented included schools, faith-based groups, various community care groups, Scouts, CWA, NDIS groups and a life-saving club. This was an excellent example of how the Workplace and Community Training model can benefit diverse members of the community.
The objective of the workshop was to bring people together to discuss social cohesion and how we can strengthen our understanding of social influence, how discriminatory language and behaviours are normalised and the role of bystanders, myth of neutrality and obstacles to action The evening began with an address from both Zoe Daniel and our CEO Mike Zervos and masterfully facilitated by Sabrina Chakman. Sabrina’s eloquent style and humour held the room beautifully, with important and engaging conversations taking hold. Overall, the evening was a success and a great opportunity to get our name and message out to the wider community.
