National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, recognising the contributions of millions of volunteers who support communities across the country.
The theme this year, “Your Year to Volunteer,” encourages everyone to find meaningful ways to give back, whether they are first-time volunteers or experienced contributors.
This theme honours the contributions of volunteers and invites people across Australia to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement, in ways that work for them.
At Courage to Care we continue to do all we can to ensure that our volunteers feel appreciated, respected and have the necessary training and support essential to a rewarding volunteering experience. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation.
To honour and celebrate our volunteers we held a delicious morning tea in our office. We were joined by guest speaker inspiring Upstander Andy Finestone OAM, Co-founder of Bicycles For Humanity Melbourne.
Bicycles For Humanity Melbourne is a completely volunteer run, grass roots registered charity organisation focused on the alleviation of poverty through sustainable transport in the form of a bicycle. Every year around 1.5 million bikes are sold across Australia. It is estimated that around half of these will end up unused or abandoned. Bicycles for Humanity has put this huge resource to work in some of the poorest countries in the world. By unlocking the value in recycled bicycles, Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne enables a sustainable model which improves access to basic human needs within African communities.
A big thank you to Andy and to all volunteers whose contributions help to make our communities in Australia and abroad a brighter and better place.
