Mount Scopus Memorial College recently hosted a public speaking event (The Manuel Gelman Public Speaking Competition) for Years 5 and 6 students. Mia, a Year 5 student and daughter of volunteer Ari Singer, won the competition with her passionate speech about the importance of being an Upstander, especially amid rising antisemitism.

Mia drew inspiration from interviewing Mike Zervos, Courage to Care CEO, with her winning speech highlighting various ways of being an Upstander, from a simple smile to intervening in major confrontations. Subsequently Mia was asked to give her speech to the entire school assembly!

Congratulations to Mia, and her parents Ari & Holli!
